We intend to have full day sessions at CEPT with Prof Gurdev on every alternate Saturdays of the month. Last Saturday we had our first full day session of the semester at CEPT. Some of the Navrachana students also visited CEPT studio, along with Prof Gurdev, and interacted with CEPT students. After studying the topic, students have now started attempting the abstract models.
Some observations:
- Abstraction doesn’t mean something complex. The clarity of the relation with the topic must be very obvious in the abstraction. The model should communicate without the student’s explanation. The best idea is to show the image and the abstraction to someone else, and take their opinion without explaining the model.
- Some of the topics or objects, many a times, directly offer a lot of clues for the abstraction; for example, a bat, or a dragonfly. There is nothing wrong in capturing the form of these objects as starting points. If you don’t find any abstraction, just start imitating.
- In motion there is a different kind of stability. A bicycle can’t balance on its own, except when it is in motion. A lot of dance forms also work with the same principle. The artist or a group of artists have to be continuously in a rhythmic motion to balance themselves on their toes.
