About Competition

The Dubai Urban Elements Challenge is an international architecture and urban design competition launched by Buildner in collaboration with Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Government. With a total prize fund of €500,000, this competition invites architects, designers, urban planners, and visionaries from around the world to propose innovative, human-scale urban elements that will help define Dubai’s evolving identity.

The competition seeks impactful small-scale architectural interventions such as:

  • Street furniture
  • Pedestrian bridges
  • Lighting installations
  • Shading structures
  • Wayfinding systems
  • Other urban details

These elements will play a key role in enhancing public spaces, shaping how people interact with the city, and transforming Dubai’s streetscapes into vibrant, well-designed environments.

Participants are required to submit clear, imaginative, and practical proposals tailored to Dubai’s seven distinct urban zones, considering their architectural, cultural, and social contexts.

The competition is open internationally to all, with no professional qualifications required.

Entry Fees: Participation is free, but a limited number of free registration spots are available. Once these are claimed, registration will transition to a bidding system.

Submission Details:

  • Proposals should be imaginative, practical, and tailored to Dubai’s urban landscape.
  • Entries must include:
    • Visual materials (sketches, renderings, diagrams)
    • Concise written explanations (concept, design philosophy, sustainability approach)
  • Submission format is clear and accessible.
