This workshop aims to introduce Grasshopper as a Design Driver, where as a Designer you can set up a larger logic and let grasshopper design for you.

This workshop will cover the full workflow for the same where the participant will start with the learning of python and then various other concepts of A.I. After which, they will create a script that uses A.I algorithms for automating various processes in design.

In the next stage, they will learn how they can take the design produced by Grasshopper to Revit using Rhino. Inside Revit participants will learn how to use Human UI to feed user inputs for getting the desired outcome.

Brief outline of the Workshop

Day 1: Sun (25 Oct, 7-9PM)

Introduction, Software setup, plugin installations


Day 2: Tue (27 Oct, 7-9PM)

Introduction to Python. Numbers, Strings, Lists, Dictionaries, Tuples, Files, sets, booleans, if-else statements, for loop, while loop, and range.


Day 3: Wed (28 Oct, 7-9PM)

Introduction to Python. Method, functions, objects, and classes.


Day 4: Thur (29 Oct, 7-9PM)

Creating custom python components in Grasshopper using GH_CPython.


Day 5: Sat (30 Oct, 7-10PM)

Various concepts in A.I and algorithms. Supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning. Explanation of neural network. Syntax and Semantics.


Day 6: Sun (31 Oct, 7-10PM)

Experimentation with LunchBox ML


Day 7-8: Tue (2 Nov, 7-9PM)and Wed (3 Nov, 7-9PM)

Creating a problem. Setting up the environment, parameters, and evaluation criteria for generating data.

Day 9: Thur (4 Nov, 7-9PM)

Making better decisions using data. Generate data using Grasshopper and analyze it using the Seaborn library in Python.


Day 10: Sat (5 Nov, 7-10PM)

Training of linear regression algorithms


Day 11: Sun (6 Nov, 7-10PM)

Saving the trained model and using it in Grasshopper to generate designs


Day 12: Tue (8 Nov, 7-9PM)

Use of Rhino.Inside Revit to take the generated model inside Revit.


Day 13: Wed (9 Nov, 7-9PM)

Creating a Human UI interface inside Revit to give user inputs.


Day 14: Thur (10 Nov, 7-9PM)

Concluding session. And way forward.


Adnan Makda

Adnan has completed Architecture from CEPT University, Ahmedabad. He has a special interest in combining technology with architecture. He is currently running a startup-up known as ARKEYTEC that focuses on applying artificial intelligence to architecture. For his research, he is currently associated with Google AI.

Adnan has done his internship from the Renzo Piano Building Workshop. He has won awards like Ultractech: Building for Billion and Kohler student awards.


A good understanding of Grasshopper is a must for this workshop.
