Art and Architecture have always been intrinsically tied together. Cross disciplinary explorations and collaborations between both have yielded path breaking results as is evident in the projects of Zaha Hadid, Peter Eisenmann, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind and many more.
This workshop has been especially designed for Designers, Architects, Artists, students and young professionals to enable them enhance their thought process to be able to conceive works of great originality and creativity.
Participants will take up works of Art of their choice as a point of departure to arrive at a conceptual thought process of space making articulated in third and fourth dimensions using the digital medium.
During the process of evolution from Art to Architecture, the work of Art chosen as inspiration will remain as a trace in the background to reveal a highly original work with a fresh expression and immense potential.
Introduction to Constructivism and suprematism and selection of painting.
presentation showing examples of the translation of paintings into architectural constructs and basic 2d analysis of paintings to understand forces, movement, volumes.
Continuation of the 2d analysis of the paintings layers.
Discussion on the progress (virtual pinup) along with discussion on a couple of documentaries.
Translation of the sketches and 2d drawings to 3d.
Continuation of translation and pinup of basic 3d. And basic techniques shown to take views at human eye.
Completion of the 3d work and basic techniques to render further.
Prof Percy Adil Pithawala is an Architect, Academic, and Artist with over 25 years of experience. He graduated from M.S. University, Baroda, and subsequently pursued a Masters in Urban Design from Pratt Institute, New York.
Throughout his career he has been associated with several national as well as international practices in Design. Prof. Percy has been the Principal of the Institute of Environmental Design, Vallabh Vidhyanagar, and a founding member of the School of Environmental Design and Architecture, Navrachana University, Baroda. He has a keen interest in art and has had several successful solo exhibitions at galleries in India and abroad.
Recently he founded The Red Studio at Baroda with an intention to further the discourse in Art, Architecture, and Design. The Red Studio organizes workshops, seminars, and lecture presentations from time to time.
Dhruv Shah is an Architect and a theoretical researcher who graduated from Navrachana University and is currently pursuing a masters in Architectural history and theory at UCL, Bartlett London.
His interests lie in the intersectionality of Academia, research and Practice with keen interest in parallel discourses to Architecture with a firm command on 3d softwares and simulations.
Architect Dhruv Shah has been teaching since the past 5 years and has conducted various workshops independently and in collaboration with Red Studio under the mentorship of Prof Percy Pithawala.
