Practice Ideology

Architectkidd’s designs make use of innovative tools that are applied to local materials and construction techniques. This combination leads to designs that are bold and inventive but also connected with the local conditions of South East Asia. While each Architectkidd project has similarities in approach, they differ in physical forms, proportion and relationships with their surroundings. Each design is characterized as being varied and dynamic, often with clearly articulated spaces and structures juxtaposed with unusual finishes and surfaces. In Architectkidd’s projects, buildings are expressed in a wide range of materials such as re-used timber, plywood and plastics. Often these materials are readily available, but through their interpretation they are given a radically new sense of purpose.

In 2011, Architectkidd was awarded the prestigious Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction for Asia Pacific region. The prize acknowledges Architectkidd’s innovative green design philosophy towards the conversion of a textile factory into a community retail development in Bangkok. Architectkidd was also selected as one of the “Young Generation” architectural practices by the Association of Siamese Architects (ASA).
