Design Miami, the annual international design fair, held in Miami, Florida, is a global event of design which exhibits the works of the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in an attempt to celebrate design culture and commerce. Design Miami is a premier venue for collecting, exhibiting, discussing and creating collectible design. Emotional Rocks
Emotions are strong feelings that all living entities experience that shape lives in the world. Emotion in itself houses the extremes of any realm, such as harshness and softness, positive and negative, or good and evil. They are forces capable of impacting individual or collective lives and providing a sense of quality and meaning to existence as no other force can. The installation tries to capture the tremendous power of emotions as powerful forces that mold our thoughts and behavior. The pebble-like forms in the art installation are a representation of our evolved thoughts and perspective of life. It symbolizes the extent to which adversity or bliss can affect our thoughts and perspectives.
Like the process of erosion where the constant wind or water flow can turn the hard jagged rocks into smooth pebbles, powerful emotions also shape our thoughts over time. It also enables us to evaluate our relationship with the world and ourselves and reflect on what is important. The Reflective surface used in the bench represents introspection as a meaningful process that happens within us.
In other words, a crisis of any magnitude brings individuals together in a collective union. It has also made people develop new perspectives, including appreciation towards others and the importance of being connected to people knowing that we cannot survive independently. These ideas have helped people live more consciously with compassion, empathy and an interest in the welfare of society, strengthening humanity and giving a sense of social responsibility. This also extends to behavioral acts of kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity, and in the greater picture, it has made human-kind, kinder.
