The chairman and Board of Governors of Indian institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad have withdrawn the plans for demolishing dorms designed by Louis Kahn after being opposed by architectural fraternity and alumni over the globe.

On December 2020, IIM-A announced that it will be demolishing and replacing 14 dormitories and various other parts of IIM-A campus, designed by architect Louis I Kahn considering it “unsafe for living”. After this announcement international opposition had risen in architectural fraternity and alumni.  The authority of IIM-A has declared in a letter dated on January 1st, 2021: “We are sensitive to the feedback from some stakeholders who are not in agreement with this approach. We are therefore withdrawing the expression of interest that was put out. We will deliberate on the feedback received, re-evaluate the options, consult the best global conservation and structural experts, and chart out a course of action, which the institute will communicate.”
