Practice Ideology

Collaborative Architecture is an international award-winning studio head-quartered in Mumbai. The studio has a design center in Calicut, South India. The practice is headed by Lalita Tharani and Mujib Ahmed, the co-founders and mentors of the studio.

The studio excels in an immersive design process that pushes the boundaries by engaging our clients, various stake holders and international team of consultants / experts, to open up new possibilities; resulting in projects, those are functionally successful, contextually relevant and affordable with an extended design life cycle.

The practice is driven by innovation and ceaseless pursuit of quality in design, explored through a kaleidoscope of cutting-edge technologies and new materials, cultural responsiveness and behavioral patterns, context and historicity, community involvement and highly democratized design process.

The studio’s works exemplify the convergence of people, places, culture, climate, economics and collaborative efforts of related disciplines to create projects, which are highly sensitive, poetic, affordable and contemporary.

International Awards/ honors include OFFICE NEXT 2016-Winner, IES Merit Award 2015, IDA 2015, Architecture Israel- Project of the Year 2012-Winner & Runner up, SEED Award 2012, SBID (Society of British Interior Designers)2012- Finalist, Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2012- Finalist, FX Award 2011-Finalist to name a few.

The studio was selected as the finalists in the Indian National War Museum, New Delhi – a two stage international competition by the Govt. of India in 2016. In 2017, Collaborative Architecture along with the firm’s collaborating partner J.Mayer.H, Berlin, also got selected as the finalists in BCDA Iconic Tower, Manila, Philippines. Collaborative also got shortlisted in a 2 stage International competition for Israeli Lounge at Kennedy Centre, Washington DC in 2018.

The studio’s works have been featured in The State of Architecture Exhibition and conference.
