The Festival of Wood invites open applications to the 8th Industrial Design Competition.
We look for: Functional, modern wooden piece
»Most of us imagine forest as an oasis of peace and relaxation. A sound of rustling leaves, birds singing, pleasant forest scents relax and calm us. The question is whether a carefully designed piece of nature in the form of wood can create a feeling of homeliness and connection with nature?”
The Festival of Wood invites open applications to the International Contest (Primal)Chair as tribute to primal forest of Kočevje. The idea is to create functional and ergonomic chair that will spread awareness about human co-existence with the nature.
Wood is the only natural source that we have in abundance but we don’t use it enough. In this way we want to promote the use of wooden materials in everyday life and encourage sustainable, economical and quality use of the wood.
Purpose of the contest is not only to design but to bring the story to the final product that is made with modern tools and ready for wider distribution.
Three wining designs by jury choice will be awarded with manufacture of the prototype that will be promoted in the time of festival and shown in media. With this prototype the designer will get a chance for a next step, that is a chance for actual marketing placement.
About the Organizer
Mission:
The mission of festival of wood supports the municipality kočevje identity that is built upon the values of natural environment, especially forests and virgin forests.
Vision:
Festival of wood is the meeting point that supports forest and wood, as well as it enables interdisciplinary connecting of people.
Goals:
Connecting all possible agents in wood business for new knowledge and skills, new usage of wood, new design and new business models.

– Call for entries: 23rd May 2022
– Deadline for entries: 29th August 2022
– Selection of winners by the grand jury: 8th September 2022
– Award ceremony: Festival of Wood 2022, 6th October 2022, Kočevje
