About Competition
The intention of the Kurula Varkey Design Forum has been to curate discussions centered around the thoughts of students and young graduates. It has constantly tried to bring the agency which students hold, to the forefront; to provide a platform for students to display their opinions about the profession they’ll be entering soon. Writing becomes a tool to examine one’s own thoughts; at the same time, it provides an important platform to express one’s voice to a larger community. Eager to provide a podium for contemplation and expression in the field of architecture, we’re pleased to announce ‘KVDF Writing Competition 2022’, for students of architecture, planning, design, and other associated fields to put down their ideas and opinions through persuasive, inspiring, and influential writing.
The Theme for the Competition
The built- environment is constantly operating within various changing contexts, such as changes in socio-economic, cultural, technological, environmental, or political landscapes. Changes in these contexts occur as shifts. Some of these can be identified as shifts from the norm, radical paradigm shifts, and shifts in schools of thought. It can affect the way a design process is approached and the way in which the scopes and functions of a profession are perceived.
- Can we proactively identify these complex changes? Do these changing relationships result in a shift in design processes?
- If yes, how and what are its implications?
- Where can these processes intersect with other disciplines resulting in the emergence of new kinds of processes?
