DESIGN BRIEF
Our concept for the Fashion School is inspired from Anthropomorphic sculptures of Anthony Gormley. A massive Sculpture of a man in solitary contemplation is perched atop the hill gazing down at the picturesque valley and mountains beyond. This Sculpture can be internally accessed thru a lift which forms a vertical structural spine. Various programmatic spaces including the studio and display areas are stacked vertically at various levels within the Anthropomorphic Man. The outstretched leg further accommodates a spectacular Ramp Walk offering out of this world setting for exuberant displays of creations by students, faculties and Professionals.
PROCESS
- Antony Gormley’s sculpture “IMPLEMENT 2010” is taken as a point of departure and placed on the sloping site
- Sculpture is scaled up and further broken down into structural and spatial modules of 4 m cube
- Vertical and horizontal articulations are integrated within the structural framework of grids
- Considering a grid on existing site, cubes emerge out into the massing form
- Volumetric masses are interspersed within the skeletal frames in order to accommodate functional programme
- Exaggerated leg of the sculpture which extends towards the lake accommodates a spectacular Ramp Walk overlooking the lake
- Traces of grid modules are further scattered and embedded into the landscape
The final form draped around an attached free-floating piece of cloth to exhibit the continuity and its relationship with human body.
