Excerpt: Floating Planes, designed by Compartment S4, is a retail experience design for a jewelry brand defined by a harmonic play of vertical lines and horizontal planes. Slender mild steel bars are used to design the hanging display shelves, display tables, stools, chairs and even the waiting bench. The olive green walls and tapestry add a certain touch of grandiose and poise to the otherwise populated space. Its composition with all the other elements triggers hidden memories of halcyon days and nostalgia of celebrations that are associated with jewelry in India.

Project Description

[Text as submitted by architect] This project is a retail experience design for a silver and diamond jewelry brand called Myra and Shah Diamonds. The aesthetic quality of the space is defined by a harmonic play of vertical lines and horizontal planes. Slender mild steel bars are used to design the hanging display shelves, display tables, stools, chairs and even the waiting bench. These vertical members make the space look free and less cluttered. The ceiling has a checkered pattern of grooves with a light at every junction. The beautifully ornamented busts seem as if they are floating in space on thin planes, keeping the customer’s eye always engaged with visuals. Along with the retail display space, there is another space which is the studio of the designers/owners. Separated by semi translucent fluted glass, the studio is also designed in a minimal way using wood.
