Jorge Villatoro

Jorge Villatoro is an architect from Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala with experience in the development of projects with an urban focus, social and cultural development.

From the public sector he has worked with the Municipality of Guatemala through the Urbanística unit and the Metropolitan Housing and Urban Development agency. From the private sector he develops architectural projects with a social focus and activist approach.

He has been professor of urban planning and urban design at Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala, as well as a researcher at the General Direction of Research at USAC and author of the research project Ciudad Barranco, which has been a worldwide reference and award winner for the positive impact it promotes.

He is currently co-director and partner at Taller ACÁ.

Hans Schwarz

Hans Schwarz Bassila is a Guatemalan architect with a degree from Universidad del Istmo and master studies in Collective Housing from ETSAM in Spain.

His interests expand from housing and the public realm to new models of participation and construction of citizenship through architecture.

This has taken him to be part of different teams and projects both locally and internationally; Urbanística– Taller del Espacio Público, Posconflicto Laboratory, Barranco Invertido (presented at the 5th and 6th International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam) and Viviendas Barriales productivas in Venezuela, among others.

He is currently Co-Director and partner at Taller ACÁ.

Practice Ideology

Taller ACÁ is a Guatemala City–based architecture and urban design firm. ACÁ is an achronym for Architecture, City and Activism as they develop human-centered design that produces an improvement and well-being in the environment, community and society arround each project.
