Project Description
[Text as submitted by architect] Set up in 300 sq. ft of area is a testament to how intent matters the most in the process of conception to completion. Along with the area to house a seating for 7 people + 5 visitors, this small space includes a paper pantry, a pantry station, a nested seating built into storage niches, and a meeting table.
The design of this office is not just another interior design project; it’s a reflection of the firm’s dedication to transforming spaces and creating an identity that resonates with the modern aesthetics of today. The design language of this project is based on the belief that design isn’t a mere subjective art form but a realm where there exists a ‘right’ and ‘wrong.’ This belief permeates every inch of the renovated space, where black and white serve as the foundational palette—a deliberate choice to embody the essence of duality.
Upon stepping into the studio, you’re immediately greeted by a space where contrasting hues of black and white converge seamlessly. These colours aren’t just aesthetic choices; they embody the yin and yang of design principles. The depth of black exudes seriousness, offering the office the gravitas it deserves, while the purity of white complements it, evoking a sense of clarity and openness. Yet, the designers have integrated nuances of beige, strategically weaving softness into this dichotomy, ensuring the space never veers into the realms of rigidity or monotony.
“The psychology behind these contrasting colours isn’t lost on us. Architects and designers immersed in this space experience a cognitive tug-of-war—a balance between decisiveness and creativity. The interplay of black and white triggers a cognitive response, enhancing focus and encouraging innovative thinking.”
It’s a place where creativity thrives within the defined parameters of precision. Functionality reigns supreme within the office. This project is a testament to how good design and thoughtful placement of functions can help a 300 Sq. Ft. Space feels much more spacious than it is. It has been planned such that the circulation corridor, running throughout the office, is flanked by functional zones on each side to optimize every square inch without compromising aesthetics or purpose.
Every design decision has been a conscious choice striving for the most efficient design office that a space can offer. The nested seating area serves as multifunctional space, transitioning effortlessly between a reading nook, a waiting area, or a pause point for contemplation. Lighting, warm and diffused, eschews harsh down lighting in favour of lamps, nurturing an ambiance that fosters focus and comfort. A dynamic floor pattern made with tiles guides the circulation corridor, aligning with the natural flow of movement within the space.
The continuation of lines on the ceiling and the floor isn’t just an aesthetic choice; it forms an invisible plane, guiding and unifying the spatial experience. The designers’ commitment to functionality extends to the thoughtful orientation of work desks and the compartmentalisation of space. It’s a space where the clash of black and white births creativity, where the past converges with the present, and where every element serves a purpose—creating a harmonious symphony of design principles.
