[Text as submitted by architect] The endeavor began with the meticulous transformation of a 35-year-old single-storey house that had long been abandoned. The initial assessment revealed severe leaking issues from the roof, prompting the client to initiate a comprehensive renovation. Instead of addressing the leaks piecemeal, the designers undertook a holistic approach by replacing the entire roof and elevating it by 2 feet. This strategic enhancement not only resolved structural concerns but also allowed for the redesign of the ceiling to facilitate greater natural light penetration, particularly in the deep center of the house.

Key design interventions included the introduction of skylights in the living room, dining room, and kitchen areas, as well as the creation of a central courtyard connecting the guest and master bathrooms. The layout was reconfigured to grant each bedroom direct access to its own private garden, akin to individual villas, thereby fostering a harmonious blend of indoor-outdoor living.

Architecturally, the exterior features robust brick wall construction for durability and thermal efficiency, tailored to withstand Kuala Lumpur’s tropical climate. Internally, cost-effective raw plywood was employed, underscoring the designers’ commitment to practical yet aesthetic design solutions. This deliberate choice of materials not only enhances the structure’s integrity but also minimizes long-term maintenance requirements.
