Project Brief

This residence is located in a suburban residential area near Brasilia, Brazil. The clients’ wish was to have a three hundred square meter ground level house built, focused on common and leisure areas, initially for weekends and celebrations. The layout is a result of organizing the bulding’s occupation, as well as the positioning of the areas in the program, with two main volumes. Private spaces were organized in the linear volume, while the wider-shaped one received all the common areas. Their positioning allows for the creation of a reserved backyard for leisure activities.

The façades’ composition reveal the level of privacy of each space: the concrete’s opacity corresponds to the more private areas; the partial transparency of the slatted timber panels reveals the common spaces, and the open leisure areas have void itself as its defining element. The land of this house is located in the Residencial Alphaville I Condominium, located near Km 13.5 of Highway DF 140, near Brasilia. The owners’ intention was to build a single storey house, with an area of approximately 300 m², on a trapezoidal plot of reduced area, in principle for the weekends, in which the spaces for socializing and leisure were privileged and the largest area possible was opened to the green.

The implementation results from the idea of organizing the occupation of the land, as well as the sectorization of the needs program, based on two main volumes. In the first, intimate spaces are arranged in a linear fashion, while the second concentrates social spaces. Intentionally, these volumes are articulated in order to create a square at the back of the lot, a space reserved for the eyes of the street, which enhances the social / playful coexistence of residents and guests.

The composition of the facade reveals the treatment given to the spaces: to those more closed (for intimate use), the opacity of the concrete corresponds; to the semi-open (for social use), the permeability of the wooden slat; to the totally open (for recreational use), the emptiness itself.
