Project Description
[Text as submitted by architect] This residence in Vyasarpadi has been meticulously designed to meet the needs of a family of two brothers, comprising 4 houses. The client is engaged in a well-established scrap business. Upon the closure of the factory, they acquired fire kiln bricks that had been present for over 30 years. These bricks were of different shapes like T-shaped, Cylindrical shaped, L-shaped and Rectangular shaped.
By incorporating these salvaged old bricks into the design, the architects were able to achieve a practical and visually appealing solution that aligns with modern sustainability goals. The strategic placement of the bricks ensures proper indoor ventilation and allows natural light to filter in, reducing the dependence on artificial lighting and enhancing the overall living environment.
The balcony openings have been incorporated with an organic arrangement of the fire kiln bricks which brings out a smooth seamless emphasis on the building from its surroundings. Adjacent to the parking area, traditional thinnai spaces offer charming outdoor seating areas, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the residence. Upon entry, a living space with thinnai-style sofas creates a minimalist interior in the sunken space, with the entire living area sunken. the triple storey height providing natural light and ventilation to all interior spaces of the building, covered at the top with glass.
The central courtyard, featuring traditional thinnai seating and green courts, acts as a focal point for natural light, creating a serene space for relaxation and social gatherings. Landscaping on the terrace enhances visual appeal and transforms the space into a more enjoyable and functional outdoor area. The yellow and white marble used in this residence gives the space a sophisticated and elegant look, adding warmth and brightness while enhancing the overall luxury and value of the home. This project not only embodies contemporary style but also underscores the importance of sustainability.
