[Text as submitted by architect]As a women’s wear shop in Luoyang, Henan, Sihn hopes to be the spatial carrier striving for progress and rich in emotions. Based on the interpretation of the brand story, Say hopes to set up a women’s wear shop that manifests women’s elegance, independence, and confidence.
The structure that supports the space
Facing south, Sihn is a narrow but long regular rectangle. The store consists of two floors: the first floor is for displaying clothing and accessories, and there are dressing rooms and a VIP area on the second floor. The narrow and long space reduces the external visibility deep inside the store. Say hopes to reduce the weight sense of the floor slab so that passengers can be attracted to the store.
Because Say does not want to endow the two-floor space for an external display with an excessive sense of alienation, a shiny structure is installed at the center, so as to increase the visual focus on the space. It seems that a powerful fortress supports the whole second floor and forms indoor lines around it naturally. Clients enter the stairway made of stacked stone at the end of the first floor after bypassing the structure. As the display area of bags, layers of stone slabs also lead guests to the second floor. The floor slab separated from the walls on the two sides seemingly floats in the air.
Soft Folds
In the space, multiple types of stone materials are collaged. Say made hard stone materials into the shape of hemline, so as to express the sway, elegant and soft folds of women’s wear. For the structure at the center, smooth wavy curves on the surface of teak wood and stone hemline with texture unconsciously form the external and internal conflict and contrast, coupling hardness with softness.
A miniature landscape
In the middle cavity of the structure, there are topological shapes of Luohe River and Yiinhe River carved with mirror finished stainless steel as miniaturized landscape. The winding river is flickering, peaceful but powerful after crackling through the ground stone. The calm and natural but powerful patterns and the implied meaning behind all work in concert with the spatial emotion built.
In the display area, stones of different sizes and materials are scattered, including naturally irregular ones, sharp and square ones, soft and lightweight ones. Around the structure, stones are separate but set off the expression of the central object.
The design of Sihn reflects the gentle but not weak traits of females in the new era under the soft and quiet modern design coat. Say expresses thoughts and understanding with abstract elements such as color, texture, pattern, and proportion. The strength of design permeates the relationship among blocks and is conveyed to every customer.
