Trisoux Bar is a bar designed by the architectural firm Martino Hutz Architecture. Crowd simulation was used to analyze optimal floor area usage and generate varied atmospheres within the space. A parametrically derived double curved surface is generated from this data that defines the character of each space and intuitively guides the visitor towards particular experiences.

We decided to add some adjustments to the client’s premises that would enhance spatial sequences capable of stimulating the uses. By manipulating the flexibility of interior expansion-segmentation without difficulties, we moved away from the result of a too geometrical functional schematism. The first incorporated the exterior – interior transition through the contained space by projecting the volumes of the second level, generating two eaves of reception and an extension of the interior space.

The Hunkered House is a residence designed by the architectural firm LIJO.RENY.architects. What looks like a single-storey building from the outside is a strategically designed house with multiple levels that hunkers down gently into the slope to protect it from all kinds of pollution generated by the heavy traffic on the road. A large landscaped courtyard inside the house and four smaller peripheral pockets are primary ventilation sources. Tsingpu Yangzhou Retreat is an adaptive reuse hospitality project designed by the architectural firm Neri & Hu. The design brief called for the adaptive reuse of several old buildings by giving them new functions while adding new buildings to accommodate the hotel’s capacity needs. Neri&Hu’s strategy to unify these scattered elements was to overlay a grid of walls and paths onto the site to tie the entire project together, resulting in multiple courtyard enclosures. The inspiration for the design originates from the courtyard house typology of Chinese vernacular architecture.
