Besides the characteristic of gothic architecture, gothic style interpretation from other regions enriched the meaning of it and consequently formulates a horrifying yet mysterious metaphor. I believe it is the literary and artistic creation that gives spirit and story to “gothic”. From my personal perspective, the gothic style always reminds me of the darkest hour before dawn, after which comes rebirth and hope.

Gothic design, particularly, Gothic architecture, celebrates nature and captures the eclectic beauty of nature. It utilizes light as its main medium to create a microcosm of nature in an enclosed space with elements borrowed from nature: its shapes, textures, and patterns.

Contrast to its predecessor, Romanesque style, Gothic is dramatic with its skeletal frames supported by flying buttresses and colorful stained glass windows. These features are created in careful yet playful observation of the nature the Gothic buildings inhabit.

Those who possessed this knowledge had real power in such a way that they consolidated the visualization of Catholicism for 300 years.
