The space is a conflux of traditional jewellery and modern architecture which makes for a unique shopping experience. The lighting is set up with maximum utilization of natural light that is available from only one side of the building.
Project Description
[Text as submitted by architect] TT Devassy Jewellers, Chavakkad, Kerala, India.TT Devassy Jewellers flagship store located in Chavakkad, Thrissur district in the state of Kerala. They approached ENVID Atelier with a showroom revamp in mind. The need of the hour was to create a new atmosphere at the showroom that would elevate their brand image. The confluence of client requirements and architectural solutions can be seen in the showroom, which has been laid out as a well-lit space, with a centralized display.
The ceiling made out of European beechwood imparts warmth and grandeur, while maintenance of the existing height of the space gives it a sense of airiness. The showroom could easily accommodate throngs of people without any congestion. This is especially important in Kerala, where shopping for gold jewellery is often a family affair. The walls are monochromatic, with white being the colour of choice.
The muted palette of the walls gives an unimpaired view of the displayed jewellery. The counters in the showroom are made of Korean boards with quartz finish which appears to be fabricated out of a single quartz stone. The bent glass used at the display counter gives a full view of the jewellery without any obstruction in the line of sight.
The lighting is set up with maximum utilization of natural light that is available from only one side of the building. The hanging lights give the jewellery good exposure at the counters as well as at the central wall displays. The overall design seems to have come together with the intention of giving the showroom a timeless feel.
No concealed lights have been incorporated in the wooden ceiling which enables lighting updates as technology advances, while retaining the warm, beechwood ceiling. The space is a conflux of traditional jewellery and modern architecture which makes for a unique shopping experience.
