Daniel Ventura

Daniel Ventura (Architect UBA 1992) is a regular Professor of Architecture I to IV, Urban Project and Architectural Project of the Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Buenos Aires; He is also Vice Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the University of Flores and directs the Material Project Postgraduate Program at FADU, UBA. He is also a full professor of the Tectonics workshop in the Master’s program at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral and the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.

Currently, he is a doctoral student at FADU of the Universidad de la Republica, Uruguay. He won the First National Prize for Architecture in 1994, and since then, his work has been published in several specialized books and magazines.

Since 2009 he has been the owner of the Ventura Virzi Architects studio. Together with the Architect Andrés Virzi, he was distinguished with national and international awards and has given conferences, workshops, and seminars in different cities of Argentina, Latin America and Spain.

Practice Ideology

The objective of our professional proposal is to investigate the specific field of spatial construction’s discipline and its relation with the phenomenological field. The building is the structure of thought capable of aboard the architectural space’s inherent themes, studying the logic and coherence of the project in-depth. Inside of the operational logic, we find the structural architecture as the qualified order of giving the possibility of generating the architectonical space. It is a concept given in tectonic terms, and it involves both: The problem related to weights, efforts and materials and the shapes and human requirements. Here is where we probably find some answers to the synthesis of the problem. In this structure, we see the intervening factors which reach the equilibrium and the coherence of one with the other.

Italo Calvino said in Palomar, “a wave can’t be watched without taking into account the complex factors that form it and other factors equally complex that it provokes”… At this point is when our job is to mould the space. A significant degree of coherence is obtained by requiring a substantial quantity of answers for every element that composes it. We get to the highest degree of synthesis only when one of these elements can solve more than one constituent problem. The questions determine the diverse possibilities to reach the goal during the project process and time is a fundamental factor for the experiments to take place. We also think that it is necessary to objectify the process of thinking.

The operations must be fundamental materials and that, according to their determinations, they will produce different sensations and have diverse qualities. Themes such as continuity/discontinuity, inner/ outer, transitions and variations are seen in the exercising project, emphasizing the tectonic problem and stressing the issue of space strengths: gravity, weight relation/support, tensions, distensions, lightness, fluency. These spatial architectonic constructions also show sensorial, psychological and phenomenological experiences and their effects on emotions, conduct, representations, and symbolic configurations.
