Virtual Design Workshop

CAUKIN Studio is offering an exciting opportunity to enroll in a unique virtual design workshop. The program will explore different ways of practicing architecture, with a focus on development and community engagement projects.

The design studio will be structured around five key themes, with the core challenge of researching, developing and designing a prototype house in the South Pacific.

Design Brief

The South Pacific is facing an increasing number of devastating cyclones due to the ongoing climate crisis. There has been a number of category 5 storms over the last 5 years, with Cyclone Winston alone causing US$1.4 billion worth of damage and 44 fatalities.

There is a growing urgency for a strong, secure, and economical prototype housing design that can be rolled out across countries in the South Pacific. This program will explore methods of researching, developing and implementing an effective design strategy.

Collaborator Engagement

You’ll hear from our network of collaborators and clients, including NGOs, local end-users, engineers and environmental design specialists. These stakeholders will ensure your design strategies are feasible and grounded in research.

Weekly Themes

The program will be structured around 5 key themes:

  • Other ways of practicing architecture
  • Community engagement and communication techniques
  • Design limitations and humanitarian architecture
  • Stakeholder viewpoints
  • Production and presentation

Guest Speakers

Each weekly theme will have a set of correlating industry professionals and inspiring individuals who will engage in panel discussions, guest lectures and project tutoring. This wide range of speakers will ensure that each topic is well covered with various viewpoints and experiences.
