The Timber Vault is a traditional technique from Africa and is found more in Spain and in the US.

Commonly used for vaulting in churches, floor systems and staircases until the 19th century. Spread around the world through the work of great architects such as Antonio Gaudi and Rafael Guastavino. Today this technique is being claimed by architects like Peter Rich, Norman Foster, Richard Hawkes, Samep Padora.

The thin bricks are laid flat in concentric rows over the entire space. Their narrow edges are in contact and fixed with quick plaster.
