11 May – 3 June 2021
This workshop intends to introduce Rhino and Grasshopper to participants who have little or no knowledge about the software. In the beginning, Rhinoceros will be introduced, which will include 3d modeling, 2d drafting, rendering. Following this, we will start with grasshopper & see various components in it with a detailed understanding of data trees. In the last part of the workshop, we will use grasshopper for fabrication, using OpenNest plugin. Participants will learn to build catenary shells, tensile structures, & minimal surfaces. Algorithms like reaction-diffusion will be taught using kangaroo. At last, we will also learn how to create arrangements using terrain.party and create city maps with the help of elk.
12 June – 4 July 2021
This is for intermediate Rhino and grasshopper users, who want to dive into the world of genetic algorithms. We will start the workshop by introducing plugins like ladybug for climate analysis, mouse for finding human paths, wasps for clustering, lunchbox for paneling, and weaverbird for mesh editing. Following this Space Syntax and Magnetic floor plan will be used for automated floor plan generation. We will then introduce various algorithms in computational design and understand the theory of genetic algorithms, following which we will do two exercises using them in real-life scenarios.
13 July 2021 – 1 Aug 2021
This module is for advanced users of rhino and grasshopper. We will start the workshops with the introduction of Python and see how we can create various custom python components in grasshopper. Following this, we will see various algorithms in A.I. We will then use lunchboxML for experimentation. In the last part of the workshop, we will set up our problem, create our own A.I. plugin using Python. Then using Rhino.Inside.Revit to transfer the Rhino model into Revit. Finally, we will create a Human UI interface for controlling our systems.
