Louis T. Lemay

Devoted to design’s ability to solve many of the modern-day problems, he embodies the firm’s mission to build spaces for communities and future generations to grow.

A Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, Louis became President of the firm in 1998. Since then, he has driven Lemay’s growth from its beginnings in Montreal to the establishment of offices in Quebec City, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and New York.

His business acumen, adaptive application of models and technologies from a variety of disciplines, and drive to create innovative and sustainable living environments have made Lemay the largest privately held architectural practice in Canada and a world leader in the field of built environments. The firm’s transdisciplinary practice interconnects one specialty with another, allowing teams to lean on, learn from, and grow forward with one another.

Louis is an essential contributor to the business community and a wide range of charities. Among them, he is currently chair of the Fondation David Chiasson, which works to help people with addiction problems reintegrate into society; a board member of the Fondation Yvon Lamarre, which provides housing and respite services to people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities; and governor for the Grande campagne des Carabins de l’Université de Montréal.

Practice Ideology

Lemay has been imagining new ways to create spaces that engage users and bring people together since 1957. Over 400 architects, designers, industry leaders, and changemakers work tirelessly to cultivate innovation in their own backyards and in communities around the world. Inspired and strengthened by transdisciplinary creativity, the firm has also developed its very own NET POSITIVETM approach to guide teams towards sustainable solutions that shape a better future. With the human experience at its heart, Lemay strives to design with empathy and create spaces to grow.
