Practice Ideology

We are based on Iki Island, a small remote island in Japan, where we run a design practice.

While enjoying the immediate natural scenery alongside the children, we aim to nurture our community, partake in productive conversations with our companions and build a healthy work-life balance.

Currently, we are interested in the changes in the surroundings and society that can stem from the conditions of the built environment. Instead of thinking of each building as an independent entity, we propose to connect in a subtle way the people’s activities with the exterior characteristics in the framework of the society that is part of this region. Although each plot of the town is of private property, we believe that it is more important to emphasize the public sphere rather than these private privileges.

In a society where people are connected loosely, instead of closing up the spaces, we seek new spaces which are connected in a fluid way. While experiencing the area’s actual daily life, we strive to connect a scenery that goes hand in hand with emotion with the next generation.
