Practice Ideology
Architecture is something that concerns us all – and we want to drive development processes to results that create added value for the environment, people and society. We seek sharp architectural answers in a world that is complex and changeable – and we are driven by an ambition to create innovative and sustainable architecture with sensitivity to the special character of the place and with an eye for the good detail. We explore a professional field that focuses on the understanding of the finished structure in a larger context. It’s about creating and strengthening relationships – about linking subsets together into robust wholes.
At Mikkelsen Arkitekter, we work especially with the development and realization of construction within sports and culture, research and knowledge environments as well as transformation and housing. Stig Mikkelsen founded Mikkelsen Arkitekter in 2012 and from September 2018, two new partners, Nikolaj Rahbek Ernst and Luise Hooge Lorenc, have joined. The design studio’s management is further made up of design studio manager Jeanne Tofteng and project manager Niels Thorup.
The design studio is located in Vesterbro in Copenhagen and employs a group of dedicated architects, engineers, designers and students. Our team is composed of different competencies and professional profiles, interests and nationalities that challenge each other across the board – and our work environment is characterized by an informal tone, interdisciplinary discussions, common enthusiasm and understanding of the importance of lifting in groups.
