Dr. Salima Naji
Dr Salima Naji, a renowned anthropologist and architect reviving traditional construction practices and developing heritage-based economic opportunities around Morocco’s endangered ancient granaries. “Women’s leadership has fostered a broadening of the concept of heritage. It has extended from the notion of heritage limited to the beautiful aesthetic object embodying a historical period to focus on heritage as a complex social dynamic that allows us to think about the relationship to past and resilience. Within families, especially in rural communities where men go to work in the cities, women are the ones who ensure the greatest share of transmission of heritage to the younger generations.”
