Excerpt: Antiche Tentazioni Devoto, an interior design project by Hitzig Militello Arquitectos, features arches as a primary element, inspired by Italian architecture. Spanish roof tiles symbolize time and are reinterpreted as lighting fixtures in the design. Curves, tiles, and greenery provide a unified visual language. Arches are decorated in Arabesque style and painted imitation gold, creating a dynamic dialogue between the past and present.

[Text as submitted by architect] Italian influence on Antiche Tentazzine is pervasive, from its very owners to its products and equipment. The hues of terracotta, the selection of tiles, and its general run-down aspect are all recurrent features in its undeniably Tuscan design. The designers enhanced the idea by introducing arches, a very noticeable aspect of Italian architecture.

The use of Spanish roof tiles is essential to the artistic DNA because they serve two functions: they are purposefully shattered, signifying the passage of time, and have been reinterpreted as lighting fixtures. Curves, tiles, and greenery are all considered in the design to provide a unified visual language.

To highlight the project’s historical influence, the arches are decorated with mesh in Arabesque style and are painted to seem like imitation gold. While the mesh in the bar area recalls images of ancient Roman arches, the arches take center stage at night, signifying the design’s core. A dynamic dialogue between the past and the present is produced by carefully reimagining all historical components in a modern setting.
