Project Description
[Text as submitted by architect] Discovermarket, having an office that reflects the nature of their business and is relevant for future needs while also honouring the significance of this heritage site was crucial. To achieve the right balance of sophistication, professionalism, aesthetic appeal and comfort, they handpicked SCA Design, and the team has certainly created a space that ticks the right boxes.
SCA were presented with a distinct opportunity to harmoniously combine the past and the present, safeguarding the heritage structure while introducing contemporary design elements. The team used natural finishes such as art brick walls and textured paint, coupled with details to take the office from ordinary to extraordinary.
As one enters, they’ll be greeted by a backlit logo on a white brick wall, which creates a three-dimensional effect as you transition into a blend of discovermarket’s blue colour palette, gradually blending into warm orange bricks as they make their way into the bar area. A beer tap was integrated into the bar counter to create an atmosphere where people feel more at ease, enabling them to relax, laugh, and encourage conversations to flow.
The modern bar counter, adorned with black Kit Kat tile accents on its base and a stainless steel-edged anti-fingerprint top, seamlessly integrates into the historic surroundings. Adding to the inviting ambience is the “discovermarket bar” neon light sign, which imparts a sense of cheer and warmth to the space.
From the reception area, one immediately notices the mezzanine work lounge, which benefits from an abundance of natural light pouring into the office space through the historic shophouse arch windows. This space is distinct from the main work zone, which is characterised by blue textured wall paint.
Further into the office lies the collaboration area. This zone is furnished with agile furniture, expansive glass writing boards and a large mobile TV, offering staff the flexibility to configure the workspace according to their requirements, while also serving as a town hall area. A gradient frosted film was applied to the entire floor-to-ceiling window to enhance privacy when conducting team discussions.
