Excerpt: Museum Amparo, designed by the architectural firm Ten Arquitectos, is an architectural renovation project in Ciudad de México, MX. With the main objective of providing the Amparo Museum with all the facilities to become a space for dialogue between its exhibitions and a new contemporary architectural language. With the renovation of rooms for temporary and permanent exhibitions, the modernization of the auditorium and the adaptation of the roofs to establish a relationship with the urban landscape of the Historic Center of Puebla that transforms the relationship of the building with its context.

Project Description

[Text as submitted by Architect] In memory of AmparoRugarcía de Espinosa, the Amparo Museum was founded in 1991 in order to preserve, investigate, exhibit and disseminate pre-Hispanic, viceregal, modern and contemporary art from Mexico and the world, having as headquarters several buildings of important historical value and architectural in the center of the city of Puebla. At that time, the remodeling of the buildings was commissioned to house the different collections to the architect Pedro RamírezVázquez.

In 2010, the Amparo Foundation undertook an architectural renovation project carried out by TEN Arquitectos so that the properties could be in line with the avant-garde and regulations regarding museology, circulation and accessibility for people with disabilities. With the main objective of providing the Amparo Museum with all the facilities to become a space for dialogue between its exhibitions and a new contemporary architectural language.

With the renovation of rooms for temporary and permanent exhibitions, the modernization of the auditorium and the adaptation of the roofs to establish a relationship with the urban landscape of the Historic Center of Puebla that transforms the relationship of the building with its context and many other transformations, the Museum Amparo has reaffirmed its position as a reference cultural center both in Puebla and in the rest of the country for its complete program of cultural and educational activities that it offers to the community, as well as for its architectural avant-garde as a result of the careful renovation of its spaces.
