Excerpt: P&T House by SILAA in Hue city, Vietnam, is a residence for a family of four that was required to be both- internally connected and to the green courtyard garden as well. The vertically stacked house is articulated in such a way that terraces are generated. The big inclined roof that slopes in towards the central garden unifies the individual spaces. Spaces with glass enclosures have a layer of louvered timber for harsher weather conditions.
Project Description
[Text as submitted by architect] The P&T House, spread across 502.7 sqm floor area is a 3 storey high structure that houses a young family of 4 members.
The site is located in the North–West side of Hue, a city in the middle of Vietnam. There are 2 main seasons in a year, the summer with harsh sunlight and the winter with long rainy times. The house was required to have both- an internal connection for the familial equilibrium as well as the connection to the gardens outside.
The floor plates are sectionally stacked in an alternate manner such that the resultant articulation generates terraces and a play of light and shadows.
As a result, the natural air can go along the house through the gaps and helps to reduce the high humidity of the tropical environment. With this structure, the connection among the family members is getting better and also provides a good relationship with the surrounding greenery.
The individual spaces are covered by a big roof that leans toward a garden in the center of the house. Timber louver surfaces are used to protect the private areas from the outside and also the harsh sunlight of the summer.
