A teacher, educator, architect, urban planner, Pritzker Architecture Prize and RIBA Laureate Architect B V Doshi passed away on January 24, 2023.

He will be mourned by us at ArchiDiaries and by the whole Architecture and Design fraternity, all over the world.

He leaves us with his eminent works ranging from the full-of-life institutional design, to the pioneering and impactful designs rooted in modernist and postmodernist eras, to the projects of socio-cultural facets. Prof. Doshi celebrated the life of the world around the buildings and imbibed that into his works.

He was often found surrounded by students and teachers and the spewed interactions became songs of nature and lessons on life whilst also being notes on architecture and the functioning world around!

No one loved Life more than him. “Anand Karo” – Celebrate Life as he would always say. He celebrated life and left us with sayings that celebrate this spirit of his…

“My works are an extension of my life, philosophy and dreams trying to create a treasury of the architectural spirit. I owe this prestigious prize to my guru, Le Corbusier. His teachings led me to question identity and compelled me to discover new regionally adopted contemporary expressions for sustainable holistic habitat,” comments Doshi. He continues, “with all my humility and gratefulness I want to thank the Pritzker Jury for this deeply touching and rewarding recognition of my work. This reaffirms my belief that ‘life celebrates when lifestyle and architecture fuse.”
