GORSKAYA TERRITORY IN ST. PETERSBURG, 76 COMPANIES FROM 16 COUNTRIES WILL COMPETE FOR THE RIGHT TO DEVELOP ARCHITECTURAL AND URBAN SOLUTIONS.

Acceptance of applications to participate in the International Competition for the Architectural and Urban Development Solutions for Gorskaya Territory has now ended.

The customer is Megaline LLC with the support of the International Community of Urban and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), the Russian Green Building Council (RuGBC), as well as the Association of Landscape Architects of Russia.

ANO Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) is the general partner. The International Academy of Architecture (IAA) is the special partner. Agency for Strategic Development CENTER is the operator of the competition.

To take part in the competition, an application needed to be completed on the official competition website at https://en.gorskaya-spb.ru/ and provide a portfolio of projects that demonstrate relevant experience, along with an essay with a description of ideas for the development of the territory.

The Organizing Committee received 160 applications from 30 countries.

23 participants filled out applications fulfilling all the competition rules: 3 individual applicants and 20 consortia, with a total of 76 companies.

The geography of the participants is vast, including 16 countries and 28 cities.

43 companies from Russia are taking part in the competition (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk), ten from the United Kingdom (London, Edinburgh), four from Italy (Bologna, Milan, Rome) and four from the Netherlands (Rotterdam, Utrecht, Hilversum), two from Spain (Barcelona), two from the United States (Minneapolis, Chicago), and two from Sweden (Gothenburg, Stockholm), as well as one company from Austria (Vienna), Andorra (Andorra la Vella), Germany (Munich), Denmark (Copenhagen), Israel (Tel Aviv), Ireland (Cork), China (Hong Kong), Romania (Bucharest) and Ukraine (Kiev).

On February 3, a jury of international, federal and regional experts in architecture and design, landscape architecture, spatial planning, ecology, economics, communications, technology and innovation will select three finalists to develop their competition proposals.

The competition will complete in June 2022.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Megaline LLC

International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP)

The International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP, founded in 1965) is an association of professional urban and regional planners. It unites individual and institutional participants from more than 85 countries in the aim of making cities and settlements inclusive, safe, and sustainable through integrated and collaborative urban and territorial planning.

International Academy of Architecture (IAAM-MAAM)

The Moscow office of the IAA (IAAM-MAAM) is a structural division of the IAA. It represents the organization and carries out activities in accordance with its Charter in the countries of the CIS and the Eurasia region and in those with IAA offices, and it interacts with IAA offices in other countries and regions. Its main goal is the informational development of professional contacts and the representation of the professional interests of architectural schools in Russia and the countries of the region on the scale of the world architectural community.

ANO Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI)

The Agency for Strategic Initiatives is an autonomous non-profit organization established by Decree of the Government of Russia on August 11, 2011. The ASI’s Supervisory Board is headed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The agency supports projects aimed at systematic changes for improving the business environment and supporting innovation, education and training, healthcare and social services, and regional and urban development. Key ASI initiatives include the National Investment Climate Ranking, the “100 City Leaders” program, support for the non-governmental sector in the social sphere, a model for increasing large companies’ openness to innovation, University 20.35 and the National Technology Initiative platform.

Russian Green Building Council (RuGBC)

The Council’s goal is to develop the market for ecological construction in Russia, unite its participants, and promote modern technologies and knowledge about them. It supports the modernization of the construction industry in accordance with the principles of ecological construction through the creation of standards, methodologies, and design solutions and the comprehensive promotion of “green” technologies and solutions.

Association of Landscape Architects of Russia (ALAROS)

The Association is a voluntary public association of Russian specialists in the field of landscape architecture, urban planning and landscape design. The Association is a legal entity. It actively works to further the development of the industry and increase the importance and prestige of the profession in Russia.

To date, the Association consists of 9 regional associations of landscape architects—from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Rostov-on-Don, Belgorod, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Togliatti. The Association of Landscape Architects of Russia is a member of the European Federation of Landscape Architects (EFLA), which in turn is one of the four regions of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA).

Agency for Strategic Development CENTER

The Agency is a Russian analytical and consulting organization that works on multi-purpose projects in the sphere of development and urban planning, in addition to being one of the top operators of various architecture, urban planning, and design competitions. It deals with matters related to comprehensive land and real estate development and to the quality of the urban environment in more than 60 Russian regions. The company’s main specialization fields include: developing territorial development concepts and functional area programming; research and analytics; GR and public-private partnerships; professional competitions in urban planning, architecture, and design; organizing local events and educational programs; territorial branding.
