Excerpt: In China Qionghai 17℃ International Tourist Resort, with ancient composition and modern design, IDMatrix uses blue bricks as the material, shabby houses as the roof, and sunlight as the medium, hoping to create a contrast between the old and the new, as well as a harmonious and aesthetic feeling.

Project Description

[Text as submitted by architect] IDMatrix took the “general” as the starting point, and set the ancient house “General Mansion” as the prologue hall of the hotel and even the entire commercial street. The design team absorbed the essence of the general culture and used it in this hotel, making it think beyond “design” itself. “It’s like a director who gives the space the ups and downs of the plot.

Between the new and the old, rough and fine, through sight and touch, I can feel the traces of life and realize the profound mechanism. We hope that both new and old buildings can experience the challenge of time and always keep the original taste and connotation.” Adjacent to the wall of the old building, a water corridor leads people to the new building, the main body of the hotel.

The corridor has become a bridge between the new and the old buildings, which not only makes their functions connected but adds a layering sense and interest. The reception area is located at the junction of the old and new buildings. The designer hopes that it can remain “neutral” and compatible with the past and the present. The appearance of the ceiling was taken from traditional architecture and it was simplified and geometrically changed.

The Chinese restaurant on the first floor is equipped with soft seating connected to the outdoors. Xichang’s temperature is nearly 17 degrees all year round, so you can always enjoy the scenery while having delicious food in the natural fragrance. As the front hall of each functional space of the new building, the tea room is like a “pavilion” in traditional buildings, surrounded by the landscape on three sides, you can sit and enjoy the landscape and comfortable breeze. The designer arranged the suites along the best landscape on the site, set up a courtyard in nature, and introduced hot springs in the courtyard.
