The task was to design a building that will represent the image of DESCO through purity in form and function with a bold expression. The purity of form is expressed through a perfect cube of 146 feet on every side.

The architectural project Vidya Devi Jindal Paramedical College by SpaceMatters creates a serene learning space that reflects modern ambitions. The task was to create an advanced, contemporary facility for the institute that would offer affordable healthcare to a large number of rural residents. The designers were inspired by the neighbouring “Mounds of Agroha,” as well as by the campus’s current architecture, which derives from Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh.
SpaceMatters is an architectural firm based in New Delhi, founded in 2005. They create space anew to affect change while analysing it through a spatial lens. This is the reason their practice combines built and ‘unbuilt’ work, moving deliberately away from patenting a style. Their work is highly textured and spans across scales, contexts, and media.
‘Nature to Nurture’ is a landscape architecture thesis by Soumitra, from Scuola di Architettura Urbanistica Ingegneria delle Costruzioni – AUIC – Politecnico di Milano, which explores the role of nature in strengthening mental health immunity. Using Bengaluru as a model, the study examines how nature could potentially be employed as a therapeutic factor in the Indian context. The proposal is built around the concept of landscape design, utilising the lakes and gardens of Bengaluru’s city centre and their inherent potential.
The Pavilion House, designed by Flyingseeds design studio is a contemporary Indian house nestled within nature intended for leisure activities. The brief was to design a new contemporary house next to the existing one with an open garden all around it. A free-flowing, open layout was conceived, with blurred boundaries between the interconnected spaces, which eventually could act as one big public space when needed.
The residence Palheiro, by Pedro Henrique Arquiteto is a modern interpretation of the fishermen’s house, which originated in response to the necessity for a place to live near the beach. Over time, the Portuguese coastline has been shaped by several regional styles. To generate a direct conversation between the past, present, and future, the aim was to foster the preservation of this regional heritage as well as to regain the community’s collective memory.

To optimise sightlines and celebrate the beauty of the significant areas, the designers embraced a free-flowing floor plan. The line of sight is further strengthened by the view-leading window sills. These elements direct the viewer’s sight and create a harmonious visual symphony with the surrounding environment.
Grand World Phu Quoc Welcome Center by VTN Architects is a bamboo structure featuring different sculptures that reflects Vietnamese culture. The designers sculpt a lotus and a bronze drum, two traditional Vietnamese symbols, inside the grid space. The space is a combination of hard and soft spaces. The grid is very systematic and precise, and combined with soft bamboo arches and domes, it surprises people while they enter the space.
The architecture of Vitesco Offices designed by TAA (Taillandier Architectes Associés) is rational, reflecting the image of the company Vitesco and through its use of concrete and white aluminum, it confers on the project an elegant and timeless image. The proposed architecture is a box of white concrete that reflects the light, allowing a representation of the diverse programs, revealing them through its regular façade.
Upside Down Flows: Redeeming the landscapes crossed by the Olona River in Milan, is a Landscape Architecture Thesis by Virgilio Diaz and Karelia Diaz from Scuola di Architettura Urbanistica Ingegneria delle Costruzioni – AUIC, Politecnico di Milano, which aims to create a green revolution in the public places through deculverting of the Olona river. While employing “soft engineering” and co-participation strategies to self-maintain public open spaces, this project strives to recognise the good impacts of restoring natural capital like the Olona river into the city, improving and strengthening the mental and physical well-being of the inhabitants.
